Der brilliante Americana-Künstler Todd Snider mit neuem Album! America's sharpest musical storyteller. - Rolling StonennDer brilliante Americana-Künstler Todd Snider mit neuem Album! America s sharpest musical storyteller. Rolling Stone A fearless folk-rock troubadour...often hilarious, and always provocative. - USA Today [Snider] combines the sly phrasing of a stoner, the perfect timing of a standup comedian, and a mastery of the tiny detail. - The New Yorker You don t expect barrelhouse boogie woogie, straight up garage rock or power pop from the ratchety voice who gave you Talkin Seattle Grunge Rock Blues, the iconic East Nashville Skyline or the Great American Taxi-backed Time As We Know It: The Songs of Jerry Jeff Walker. Yet fresh from fronting the freewheeling social commentary of the jam-meets-Tom Petty Hard Working Americans featuring Widespread Panic s Dave Schools and Chris Robinson Brotherhood s Neal Casal Todd Snider s Eastside Bulldog suggests there s a new kinda rumble under the hood of the iconoclastic troubadour. TRACKS: 1. Hey Pretty Boy 2. 37206 3. The Funky Tomato 4. Eastside Bulldog 5. Check It Out 6. Bocephus 7. Are You With Me 8. Enough Is Enough 9. Ways and Means 10. Come On Up

Stories of the Modern South: Revised Edition
17,90 CHF *
zzgl. 3,50 CHF Versand

Some of the greatest storytellers of our time chronicle twentieth-century southern life. Rich in irony, sly humor, and vivid, dramatic imagery, the literature of the modern South is a vital amalgam of a once-rural society's storytelling tradition and the painful contradictions and cultural clashes brought about by rapid change. The stories in this collection are as diverse as the region itself, yet they are all connected by a shared history and a uniquely southern strain of American language and narrative. Contributors include Truman Capote, William Faulkner, Carson McCullers, Flannery O'Connor, Katherine Anne Porter, Alice Walker, Eudora Welty, and Tennessee Williams.

The Correspondence of Shelby Foote and Walker P...

In the late 1940s, Walker Percy and Shelby Foote, friends since their teenage years in Greenville, Mississippi, began a correspondence that would last until Percy's death in 1990. Walker Percy, the highly regarded author of The Moviegoer, wrote six novels, two volumes of philosophical writings, and numerous essays. Shelby Foote met with early success as a novelist, but his reputation today rests more upon his massive three-volume narrative history of the Civil War, and his role as commentator in Ken Burns's documentary The Civil War. The correspondence between Percy and Foote traces their lives from the beginning of their respective careers, when they were grappling fiercely and openly with their ambitions, artistic doubts, and personal problems. Although they discuss such serious matters as the death of Foote's mother and Percy's battle with cancer, their letters are full of sly humor and good-natured ribbing. Jay Tolson has selected, edited, and annotated the letters of these two remarkable writers to shed light on their relationship and their literary careers. Includes an eight-page insert with photographs of the writers chronicling their friendship.

'If poetry was basketball, Ryan Clark's humor would be a flawless ankle breaking crossover move. If you've heard his all-star work you already know 'he's got game!' This book is well worth the price of admission.' - Frank X Walker, author of Affrilachia and Buffalo Dance ***** 'I have to pee. Bad.' So begins 'American Standard,' a poem about a teenage boy who wants to grow up, but isn't quite ready. Welcome to Ryan Clark's world. Known for his sly wit and entertaining journalistic style, Clark fills his first book of poetry with a mixture of gut-busting humor, tear-jerking anecdotes and expertly crafted historical fiction. Follow Clark as he spins tall tales about the Devil, Exorcists and his own young daughter. Read his rants about negative people, teenagers who text too much, and the information that baby classes conveniently do not teach. But pay attention as Clark gets serious too. He devotes one section of the book to the most controversial political scandal of our time. Poems are told from, among other perspectives, that of a stained dress, an eager microphone, and an idealistic young campaign volunteer. Clark's first book of poetry is sure to be remembered.
